Mountaintop is an immersive experience I made as the final for my Level Design class. It's based on a time when the power went out while my family and I were staying in a cabin in the mountains. Fortunately the snow storm is just artistic liberty.
Level Design
This was a project for a level design class, so naturally that was the main focus. I wanted a lot of verticality in the level, and I also wanted to experiment with leading the player using lights.
Particles
The snow storm is one of the most noticable features of the level. It took some sneaky slight of hand to get it working at a reasonable framerate though. The top floor has a set of particles that activate only outside the windows. The bottom floor has a similar setup. Outside, a larger particle system activates and follows the player so they always feel immersed.
